Apple Picking Season The picking season starts mid to end of February and lasts two months. Each tree is picked several times for the best fruit, and carefully handled into picking bags and then bins. Again it is physically tiring and hot work. You are paid on the bins picked – a bin being 410kg and worth between $28-$35. By emailing us you have applied for a seasonal job so you will hear from us – if you don’t just email again.Seasonal job Details The rates we pay vary depending on the difficulty of the job at the time, but once you have learnt the job the average worker can expect to earn about NZ$100 per day for thinning and early picking (March) and NZ$120 per day for late picking (April and May).
Accommodation in our Apple Orchard In Hawkes Bay it is very hard to get accommodation on site, and backpackers charge around $110 a week, if you can get in. It is a big problem in the Bay. We rent caravans that we have on the apple orchard .Caravans (trailer homes) camp sites and separate cabins also add to the options that we have. Within all of our accommodation areas there are showers and washing facilities, communal kitchens and laundries. All of our living quarters meet with local body requirements and have the necessary permits and certificates.
We charge $56 a week per person for the caravans and $28 a week per person if you have a tent or camper van. On apple Orchard we have kitchen facilities, toilets a shower block, clothes washing area and a common room with internet access. It is all a bit rough and ready but most people say it has character.
